Blue Ridge, PingTone Team on Complete Secure Virtual Ethernet Solution

May 3, 2007 (TMCnet) — Blue Ridge Networks, provider of high assurance security solutions to business and government has joined forces with PingTone Communications, one of the largest providers of hosted Cisco IP phone services to corporate and government customers, to introduce a carrier-agnostic subscription service. Enterprises can now meet high standards of security and compliance, while being freed from the high costs of carrier-specific WAN solutions.

The hosted solutions offered by the two companies include Cisco VoIP services that ride on the Blue Ridge/Secure Virtual Ethernet Service, which the company announced on March 22. The service delivers the convenience, mobility and flexibility of Ethernet-based connectivity to offices globally, yet without the high cost and limitations of private line, ATM, frame relay, or ISDN platforms.

The solution is entirely carrier-independent with backup redundancy for 100% uptime and is implemented with high levels of security, certifications, and standards that have already been proven globally within the intelligence community. This hosted service model allows organizations to cap costs, improve flexibility, and increase the security of critical voice and data communications.

Legacy services, such as ATM, frame relay, and private lines, have been steadily losing ground to next generation IP-based technologies and services, which is a trend that will continue as enterprises seek more bandwidth, convergence, better management and increasing value-added services and cost savings.

The PingTone service includes all the typical Cisco phone system functions, as well as local and long distance usage. Because the solution uses IP phones, customers need not worry about maintaining or managing any traditional telephone equipment, and can do away with their PSTN lines if they so desire. Also, because this is a hosted service, phone users, numbers, and offices are tied together into one flexible system for convenient four-digit dialing, centralized reception, and unified messaging.

“The flexibility of our combined offerings allows organizations to work with solutions that are not just innovative in providing low-cost alternatives to legacy technology, but have been proven in the most demanding of enterprise environments,” said Mike Fumai, CEO of Blue Ridge Networks. “Savings are dramatic when advancing to carrier-agnostic solutions."
