PingTone Hosted Cisco IP Phone Service Key Component in World’s Largest Secure VoIP Network

HERNDON, VA (March 14, 2007)—PingTone Communications today acknowledged their contribution to the world’s largest secure VoIP network – the Iraq Command and Control Network known as IC2N. As the world’s largest fully meshed secure network, the IC2N provides secure and non-secure voice and data services to the Iraq Ministry of the Interior (MOI). The project first started in November 2004 with the objective of connecting the major cities of Iraq with a robust private communications system to support Interim Iraqi Elections in January 2005. In late January 2007, an important milestone was achieved when Coalition forces transitioned control of IC2N directly to the Iraq Ministry of the Interior.

Over time the Command and Control Network has grown in scope, now linking various MOI sections together and allowing both trusted IP phone conversations as well as secure email. Advanced BorderGuard encryption devices power these high security functions. The fully meshed secure voice capabilities allow individual sites to talk via secure IP phone to any other site, not just a central headquarters facility. The network has proven to be so valuable that the MOI decided to keep it relatively unchanged following the transition.

PingTone Vice President of Service Operations Robyn Smith commented, “PingTone continues to take great pride in supporting Coalition and Iraqi personnel using IC2N to help accomplish their important ongoing mission.” Companies comprising the team involved in the IC2N solution are well known leaders in their respective industries; Loral Skynet satellite services, PingTone hosted Cisco IP phone services, Blue Ridge Networks BorderGuard encryption systems and Proactive Communications technology support services. Each team member succeeded in overcoming the numerous technical and logistical challenges of operating over extended distances and remotely deployed IP satellite links while creating a state-of-the-art communication system.
